Happy Fall!!!

With Love,
Graham, Hannah and Jordan

A tribute to my hubby

Ahhh, the working man. Getting his hands dirty and burned is an everyday occurence. Metal shavings, splinters and cuts won't slow this grip down. I envy his strength and take pride in his gentleness. He molds, makes and manuvers quick on a dime. They tighten bolts and bring home the bacon. These hands work hard everyday. We love you, honey. You really do make the sparks fly!!!

Cooking Class Friday times two!

Hey there! I was a little behind in posting our cooking classes. Graham and Hannah made cereal oat bars last week and fruit salad this week. They got to cook on the stove and cut with a knife. With so much picky eating in our household, using this class to get these two to open their horizons to food, has been great. They love cooking class and just so you know, they pick the menu. Jordan has been into taste testing and stirring. We are also studying our five senses this week, so we used all of our senses in cooking. If you want the cereal bar recipe just email me! They were soooooo good!

First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage...

Like two peas in a pod, like brown on rice... we were made for one another! Someone who is as silly as me and knows how I feel without me having to say a word. He's my other half. I simply could not function without him. He's the best Daddy I've ever seen. When he comes home, it's like Elvis has arrived!

Man Down!

Graham took a fall after tackeling the dog. His shirt is so great! It has check marks next to -blamed sister, -annoyed parents, -played video games... Mission Accomplished! The shirt was made for him!

Me and My Peanut

Jordan is saying a few more words. His new thing is choo-choo. We have tracks in our backyard, so when the train comes by everything in his little life STOPS. He runs around yellig "choo, choo, choo"! Graham was a train freak, too. Good thing I saved all those Thomas the Train tracks and stuff. I put a Thomas the Train video in for the first time and he looked so amazed. He had a train in his hand. He looked at the tv and then at the train in his hand, and then at the tv again... His face expression said "WOW"!

Friendly Fall Creatures

When we went to Farmer's Market with my Grandmother, we picked out a variety of gourds and pumpkins. We washed them and got creative. I got the idea from parents magazine. We had so much fun with these and they are holding up nicely in the yard with the weather. I love to watch walkers point and smile as they go by. We don't do Halloween, so this was a perfect alternative for the kids to decorate the yard for fall. Check your local farmers market for gourds. You can get smaller ones and Indian corn for a festive fall center piece for your table.
If you get creative let me know how it goes!

Friday Cooking Class

Today the children made Pumpkin Pie. We got some small pumpkins from the Farmer's Market last week and Graham requested pumpkin pie. After scooping the guts, we cut the pumpkin in 1/2 and baked it for 45 minutes at 400 degrees. When it was done we scraped the soft insides into our food processor and processed away. To 1 1/2 cups of pureed pumpkin we added 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 tsp of salt, 2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice, 1/2 tsp of allspice, 1 2/3 cups of evaporated milk and 2 eggs.

Jordan gets a turn

See, we do let Jordan help... sometimes! He wanted to stir. He did a great job. Hey Mom, we need another "mini" apron!!! Something with choo-choo trians!

Everyone loves to stir

We all had to take turns stirring our pumpkin pie filling! I love the warm color. They wisked and poured into a frozen pie shell. (No we did not make the shell from scratch... I know my limits with certain things.)

Pie is in the oven

We baked the pie at 425 for 15 minutes and then at 350 for 40 minutes. Graham has the privilege of opening up the oven door now.

Bring on the pie!

Graham was very proud of himself. He said "I give myself an A larger than the universe, plus"! It was very good.

Oowey, Gooey

While our pie baked we made Toasted Pumpkin Seeds. (recipe to the right)
Of coarse Graham loved the squishy feeling of separating the seeds from the pumpkin guts. Hannah... I had to coax and have a dish towel ready for her hands. She hates to get them dirty. (She got that honestly from me)

Crunch Pumpkin Seeds

These were a big hit!

Jordan Cleans my Floors

Why in the world would I clean my floors when I have Jordan to do it for me? I let this go on for the video, but the norm is to nip it in the bud. He will throw a fit if you look at him sideways these days. Ahhhh- the toddler tantrums. One more to go! Give me strength, Lord!

Outside Painting

Yes.... we love to paint. It brings my kids great joy when I say things like "Kids, you wanna go outside and walk in paint." They had fun and I'm trying to think of something creative to do with these precious footprints.

Shirts Off!

Well, Fall is here but you wouldn't know by our weather. It's still hot most afternoons. After the kids painted, we played in hose to clean up. Graham and Jordan took their shirts off and of coarse Hannah had to do the same. She's so brown and my boys are so white! They had a great day. Hurry up fall weather.... we are ready to go camping!
